Biography:

Kaymin Ormerod BA LLB LLM (PhD Candidate)

I am an admitted South African Attorney and Australian Solicitor with experience in governance, regulatory compliance, and ethical oversight in technology-driven environments. I am completing a PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Cape Town on scholarship, which informs my work at the intersection of advanced technology, ethics, and regulation.

Professionally, I work as an AI Data Privacy expert at NTT Data Inc, advising on AI governance, privacy-by-design, and regulatory risk within complex, data-intensive systems. My responsibilities include defining data-privacy control frameworks and guiding their operationalisation and implementation across global deployments.

I also serve as Chairperson of CONNECT, a non-profit organisation that uses mobile and messaging-based technologies to support digital inclusion and economic participation in township communities. In this capacity, I provide legal and governance oversight for projects that enable consumers to order essential goods via mobile channels, with fulfilment supported by licensed local taxi operators and community drivers. The role involves careful consideration of consumer protection, responsible use of mobile data services, payment and identity risk, and regulatory compliance, and has strengthened my experience in board leadership, risk management, and engagement across diverse stakeholders in resource-constrained environments.

In addition, I have been actively involved with WASPA for over three years as an adjudicator, giving me insight into the organisation, its members, and the challenges that arise for both members and consumers.
