Biography:

Monwabisi Mabude is a strategic leader in the mobile messaging and digital communications industry, with experience spanning operations, governance, reporting, and stakeholder management within the WASP ecosystem. His career has focused on building resilient, compliant, and cost-effective messaging environments while enabling innovation and sustainable growth.

He operates at the intersection of technology, regulation, and commercial delivery, working closely with mobile network operators, aggregators, enterprise clients, and internal teams to improve transparency, optimise performance, and future-proof messaging services. He has led initiatives that strengthen reporting capability, promote data-driven decision-making, and align operational practices with regulatory requirements and evolving market demands.

Monwabisi is recognised for a principled, collaborative leadership style and a strong commitment to industry development. His perspective is informed by hands-on experience with emerging messaging models, evolving digital use cases, and the convergence of messaging, fintech, and digital platforms.

He actively contributes to global industry advancement through participation in GSMA initiatives, including Open Gateway (network APIs), RCS Universal Profile development, Africa Fraud and Security, and Identity & FinTech.

Motivation:

I seek to serve on the WASPA Board to help shape the next phase of industry transformation. I believe that strong governance, inclusive leadership, and effective collaboration are essential to unlocking innovation while maintaining consumer trust and industry credibility.

As the messaging landscape evolves toward richer channels, new commercial models, and deeper digital integration, I believe WASPA plays a critical role in guiding responsible adoption of next-generation messaging services; supporting members navigating regulatory complexity and technological change; strengthening partnerships across operators, service providers, and digital ecosystems; and enhancing member engagement, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

With over two decades of leadership experience across digital platforms, enterprise transformation, and commercial strategy, I bring a practical perspective that bridges strategic vision with operational execution. I am committed to strengthening member engagement, supporting emerging players, and ensuring WASPA remains relevant, representative, and responsive.

My objective is to contribute to a collaborative, innovative, and future-ready WASP industry, one that balances growth with responsibility and positions South Africa as a trusted and competitive player in the global digital economy.
