Radio Interview with Good Hope FM – The Morning Show

According to the 2020 State of the ICT Sector report, compiled by the ICASA, SA’s smartphone penetration surpassed the 91.2% in 2019. This means that the mobile environment has moved away from the previous feature phone era with limited abilities into the smartphone era which provides consumers with endless options and access to information, etc.

According to the newly released report from the GSMA – more than 500 million people in sub-Saharan Africa subscribed to mobile services during 2020.

But, with all the advantages, there is however a dark side too….

Paris-based cyber security and anti-fraud firm Evina has determined that one out of every three mobile subscription attempts in South Africa is fraudulent.

They estimate that Africa’s mobile fraud losses will continue to rise above the 2020 figure of $4 billion if nothing is done to prevent global cybercriminals from looting the digital space.

Now its up to consumer education and equipping individuals with the resources to navigate safely within the digital environment.

Leigh-Anne Williams from Good Hope FM chats to WASPA’s General Manager, Ilonka Badenhorst, about everything mobile, including how to navigate safely within the mobile environment.
