Radio interview with Lotus FM – The Weekend Liftoff
Mobile fraud – how to avoid getting conned
With each passing day, technology becomes a part of society’s daily DNA – it becomes almost impossible to carry out normal tasks without our phones – from banking, working, exercise, schoolwork to entertainment. In fact, our mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives so much so that by the end of 2019, 5.2 billion people subscribed to mobile services worldwide, accounting for 67% of the global population.
And with new, cheaper handsets being made more readily available, more content and subscription services entering the market and more mobile payment mechanisms coming to the fore, the connectivity gap continues to close. However, the erosion of trust continues to increase. Missing data, unauthorised payments, illicit spam and intrusive mobile marketing and ad fraud continue to plague the industry and are subsequently changing the fraud game.
Lotus FM – The Weekend Liftoff Show – speaks to Ilonka Badenhorst, General Manager at WASPA (Wireless Application Service Providers’ Association) – to unpack the following:
- What is mobile fraud and what tactics are being used to commit these crimes?
- How consumers can avoid getting conned
- How to stop subscription services and check for unsolicited subscription services?
